RIDOT to replace structurally deficient Providence bridge
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Those who regularly drive across the West River Street bridge in Providence will soon need to find another route.
The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) announced Friday that the bridge, which carries the roadway over the West River, will be temporarily closed starting July 12.

The bridge, which was built in 1955 and has been deemed structurally deficient, will be closed for approximately four months as RIDOT works to replace it.
RIDOT plans on installing a temporary traffic signal at the intersection of West River and Charles streets to assist detouring traffic.
In addition to replacing the bridge, RIDOT plans on improving its drainage system and sidewalks, as well as making it ADA-compliant.
The bridge replacement and improvements are expected to cost roughly $10.5 million.
