Starwing Paradox Game Inspires Anime Movie AS ONE
The Square Enix sci-fi arcade game Starwing Paradox is inspiring an anime movie titled AS ONE, which will premiere in Japan in summer 2025.
Kobun Shizuno (various Detective Conan movies, including The Crimson Love Letter and The Darkest Nightmare; Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters co-director) is directing the film with character designs by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (Neon Genesis Evangelion, Great Pretender, Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water).

Sadamoto also did the character designs for the game, which was developed by BYKING and had anime scenes produced by Sunrise.
According to Shizuno (via Comic Natalie), AS ONE is a prequel that connects to the original game. Comic Natalie reports that the main character is an aspiring musician called You, who one day hears a cry for help in their mind and becomes enveloped in white light. A robot mechanic called Lako, who is trying to stop massive falling space debris, falls into a coma and meets You in its consciousness, prompting the start of the story. During this time, there is an attempt at a ceasefire between two countries from the planet Meguriboshi who have been warring over energy resources.
Starwing Paradox‘s online functionality was active from 2018 to 2021. Its main game mode featured 8v8 “high-speed” battles involving the Air Real mecha. AZ-One is the name for an Air Real pilot.
