Anderson has also kept fans updated about his life and his work on social media. Recently, he gave fans a clue on when they could expect the show to return with Season 21.

Taking to Facebook, Anderson shared a photo of what appeared to be a fresh haul of crabs aboard a vessel. In the caption, Anderson wrote, “…..waiting. ………waiting …….waiting…[DEADLIEST CATCH STARTS MID JULY.”

As noted by TV Insider, a mid-July would serve as the show’s latest debut since its 2005 premiere. During the first nineteen seasons, the seasons consistently debuted in either March or April. Season 20 already shook things up with a June premiere.

Some Fans Think Season 21 Might Be A Shorter One (& It Might Not Be Such A Bad Thing)
On social media, some fans have shown concern that this late date could come at the cost of a shorter season. As one fan wrote, “Great, I’m excited! Injuries, weather, major health problems, deaths, guard rescues, family drama, fishing fun, tension on deck, all that is Real. If you can’t get past a little producer-pushed storyline BS, then don’t tune in.”

However, some fans noted a shorter season could be a blessing in disguise. As one fan wrote, “In my opinion, the show went downhill when they started adding a zillion episodes to each season. They had the demand, so they had to fill the extra episodes with fluff. Now maybe shorter, more condensed seasons will have less scripted filler material and more actual footage like years ago.”

That said, other fans shared their excitement over the show’s return. A few even shared surprise at how long the series has lasted so far. Some comments included:

“How do I get a job on a crab boat? One of my life goals is to finish 1 season on a crab boat.”
“Amazed that people still watch after so long. It’s generational. Wonder how many of the original crews are still kicking.”
“Hopefully the producers have cut down on the over dramatization of every little thing.”
“I just started watching for the first time mid season 20, so for me, I can’t tell what is scripted vs unscripted- nothing to compare it to. I’m glad. I really enjoy the show vs people that have been watching it since Season 1- they are constantly bitching about the apparently scripted s*** in the episodes.”
