Chicago Man Convicted in 1982 Cold Case Murder of His Own Infant Daughter
A Chicago man has been found guilty in a case that remained unresolved for more than four decades. Isiah Williams, 78, was convicted of one count of felony murder and one count of first-degree premeditated murder in the 1982 disappearance and presumed death of his 8-month-old daughter, Olisa Williams, Michigan Department of Attorney General announced Thursday.
According to a statement obtained by WWJ Newsradio, the infant was last seen after Williams allegedly took her from her mother, Denise Frazier-Daniel, during a physical altercation in Ohio. He then traveled to Michigan, where the child was last seen alive that summer. Despite exhaustive efforts, Olisa's body has never been found. Williams has always maintained that he did not kill his daughter and has unsuccessfully tried to appeal the conviction multiple times.
Ann Arbor police asked the state's Attorney General's office to re-examine the cold case in early 2021, leading to renewed investigation into the matter. A press release by the Michigan Department of Attorney General quoted Dana Nessel expressing gratitude for the perseverance of law enforcement, stating, "Thanks to the unwavering commitment of our law enforcement partners, who spent years following every lead in this tragic disappearance, and the dedicated efforts of prosecutors in my office, Olisa’s family can finally see a measure of justice served."
Frazier-Daniel, who never stopped searching for her daughter, became an advocate for missing person organizations and maintained regular contact with the police. In a heartbreaking turn of events, Williams' conviction provides a sorrowful closure to the decades-long mystery. The sense of justice maybe bring some solace to those haunted by the baby's disappearance, as Nessel hopes the conviction "may bring some peace and healing to Olisa’s loved ones," according to WWJ Newsradio.
