Jason Kidd on critics calling for his job last season: 'Everybody has their opinion...a lot of times people don't really see the big picture'

“I’ve never been concerned about money,” Kidd said. “I’m going to do what I have to do. And then as a player, I was never concerned about that. My contract was going to reflect the way I played, so I was going to work. And so, I was fortunate to make some money as a player and as a coach with all the negativity of people who don’t even know how to coach saying all that stuff or whatever it was. It is what it is. “Everybody has their opinion. Some have merit, some don’t, but I truly believe that I’m doing what’s best for the team. A lot of times people don’t really see the big picture.”Source: Andscape

Kidd got a call on that day in 2018 from Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, who told him that he was going to be fired and that he was willing to help him save his job. Believing that such a decision was on the horizon, Kidd thanked Antetokounmpo and told him there was nothing he could do. Shortly after, Bucks general manager Jon Horst and team president Peter Feigin officially gave Kidd the decision at a pizza restaurant. -via Andscape / June 5, 2024
“I thought I did a really good job of taking a bad organization or franchise that wasn’t very good and making them respectable,” Kidd said. “That’s where my mind was being fired or let go or dismissed. That’s just part of coaching.” -via Andscape / June 5, 2024
