47% GenZ Employees Skip Lunch Breaks At Work, Reveals New Study. The Reason Will Shock You

In a shocking revelation, a new study highlighted a trend among GenZ employees that could be detrimental in the long run. A recent stidy by ezCater has claimed that around half of the GenZ workers skip lunch breaks due to overwork or out of guilt. The new study claims that GenZ feels guilty while stepping out of the office space for lunch. According to the 2024 Lunch Report, nearly half of Gen Z respondents, 47 per cent, miss lunch twice or more each week. The report, based on a survey of 5,000 full-time U.S. employees skip lunch primarily due to tight schedules and heavy workloads. The study found that the respondents feared that taking a break during office hours would hinder their ability to complete the work assigned to them. However, 19 per cent of the respondents felt that their tight schedule and excessive meetings hinder them from having lunch breaks. Despite the fact that 50% of these young professionals view lunch as the "best part of the workday," they are four times more likely than Baby Boomers to experience guilt when stepping away from their tasks. GenZ is referred to people born between 1997 and 2012. Earlier, a survey conducted in 2020 revealed that 60 per cent of the remote workers think that taking a break from work during office hours will negatively impact their productivity. "Skipping lunch or meals, in general, is detrimental to both physical and mental health, and doing so over a long period can contribute to or exacerbate burnout—which isn't good for work or for workers," said behaviourist and stress management expert Robyne Hanley-Dafoe, as quoted by Newsweek.
