Exclusive: Paris Hilton Shares Behind-The-Scenes Look at a Special Project That Reframes How We View ADHD

It seems like everyone has an opinion about ADHD. It only happens in boys, medicine to treat it is addictive, it doesn’t actually exist at all. None of these are true, but as a mom of a child with ADHD, I’ve heard it all. That’s why I was so excited to see Paris Hilton speaking about this often-stigmatized diagnosis this month. The Simple Life star received her own ADHD diagnosis in her 20s and released a song about her experience this month! Now she is opening up about it — and helping us reframe how we view ADHD — in a new behind-the-scenes clip from her “ADHD” music video shared exclusively with SheKnows.

In the video, Hilton shows up to the set for “ADHD” dressed in a black sweatshirt with “Queen” written on front in rainbow letters — so fitting for the heiress who is known for “sliving!” She tours the music video set, exploding with vibrant colors that “looks like this magical world that’s inside my mind,” she explains in the exclusive clip with a laugh.

The Paris In Love star and mom of 2 explains that ADHD is her “superpower.” And this song is “a way to celebrate” people with ADHD and help “make them feel like it’s their superpower, too.” Especially for women, who have historically been under–diagnosed because their symptoms often look different than for boys.

“Growing up with ADHD and not knowing what it was … no one was speaking about that back when I was a teenager,” she says. “So I just always thought something was wrong with because no matter how much I studied or reading books in school, I could never remember anything. I just felt I was always behind. It was overwhelming because I would just have so many thoughts going through my mind.”

Now she embraces ADHD as something that makes her who she is. “It makes me fun and creative and someone who thinks outside the box and doesn’t want to conform to society’s expectations,” she said, adding, “I want people to know that it’s not something that’s bad.” I love this entire outlook because I’ve seen firsthand how special ADHD makes my 7-year-old son, and I love the way Hilton is working to show people how wonderful it truly is instead of just viewing ADHD as a limitation.

Hilton is sharing this exclusive clip for ADHD Awareness Month in October. Through her company 11:11 Media, Hilton has partnered with Understood.org, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting and empowering individuals who learn and think differently. This organization helps 70 million Americans by raising awareness, addressing stigmas, and delivering resources for individuals with ADHD to thrive at school, at work, and in life.

Hilton released a thank-you message to fans on Instagram this week for the response to her “ADHD” music video. “The response to my #ADHD music video has been incredible 🥹💫  Your love and support mean the world to me 🥰💖” she wrote, adding, “ADHD is part of my story, and I’m so proud to share it with you 🦋 Link in bio to watch the full video! #SlivingWithADHD #ADHDAwarenessMonth #InfiniteIcon”

“Life is boring. You need magic and sparkle,” she adds in the exclusive clip. Her music video definitely shows the beautiful, wonderful, and positive side of ADHD — and we love seeing how personal this whole project was for Hilton. Now that’s iconic!
