Rockets plan to keep Jeff Green, Jock Landale and Jae'Sean Tate under contract for next season

Facing deadlines to reach decisions on the contracts of Jeff Green, Jock Landale and Jae’Sean Tate, the Rockets plan to keep all three under contract, a person with knowledge of the team’s plans said. They also are open to bringing back guard Aaron Holiday, who will be a free agent again this offseason, though that decision could be impacted by the draft if the Rockets add two smaller guards.Source: Houston Chronicle

More on this storyline

The Rockets have until Friday to exercise their option on Tate’s contract, worth $7.5 million next season. They have until Friday to waive Landale before the next season on his contract, worth $8 million, would become guaranteed. Though they have until July 11 to exercise their option on Green’s contract, they have also let teams know that they plan to keep Green. -via Houston Chronicle / June 24, 2024

All signs point toward the Rockets picking up the options on veteran forwards Jae’Sean Tate and Jeff Green, team sources said. This list also includes reserve center Jock Landale, even with the expectation Steven Adams, who was acquired in February, will be a sizable contributor next season. From a cap space standpoint, this would put the Rockets around $9.5 million under the tax threshold, according to The Athletic’s salary cap expert Danny Leroux. -via New York Times / May 21, 2024

This quote is from a feature published on opening night about the Nuggets’ hopes of building a dynasty. There was real optimism that Nikola Jokic could power the Nuggets to back-to-back titles, making them the first team to do it since the Warriors did it in 2017 and 2018. Denver was the clear favorite to win it all again, despite losing two key rotation players in Bruce Brown and Jeff Green to free agency. But only rookies and journeyman vets were added to plug in the gaps. With the new collective bargaining agreement presenting massive team-building challenges for teams that are well over the luxury tax, adding young players felt like a reasonable approach. But the Nuggets’ lack of depth was the one hole critics could poke in its case to run it back. -via The Ringer / May 21, 2024

Law Murray: The Houston Rockets rule out six players for season finale at LA: – Dillon Brooks – Fred VanVleet – Alperen Sengun – Jae’Sean Tate – Tari Eason – Steven Adams Likely will start Green/Thompson/Whitmore/Smith/Landale -via Twitter @LawMurrayTheNU / April 14, 2024

Adam Spolane: Ime Udoka said it’s “unlikely” Alperen Sengun and Jae’Sean Tate play again this season. Sengun still has some swelling in his ankle, and there’s no need to rush him back with the Rockets eliminated. Tate’s ankle issue has lingered and it “acted up the other night” -via Twitter @AdamSpolane / April 9, 2024
