Tennessee looking to flush and move on
Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel’s message to his team on Monday was simple. Learn from the mistakes and flush it.
It was the message reiterated by senior Dayne Davis when he met with the media on Monday
“It’s a tough pill to swallow,” Davis said. “You have to come in, watch the film. You can’t sulk on a loss regardless of who it is. If you do that then it will carry over to the next game. That’s the last thing you want. You don’t want a loss in the first place but if you let his follow you into next week then it’s gong to create a domino effect. You have to come in learn from your mistakes and move on to the next one.”
For the Vol offense, growth starts with better pass protection. That means winning more one on one battles and better communication.
“It wasn’t anything we haven’t blocked before,” Davis said. “Pre snap movement was a big thing as was pre-snap penalties. We have to adjust when we are out there. Just go block it. Its not anything we haven’t blocked before. We just have to clean it up and get ready for the same thing this week.”
Tight end Miles Kitselman echoed the notion in terms pas blocking. The veteran believes proper communication is needed to fix the issues.
The next one is a big one as the Vols host Florida in an important game and one with plenty of history. MTSU transfer Jakobe Thomas has never played in this game, but the Nashville natives knows all about the history in this series.
“Just being on the same page communication wise. They came out in a completely different front, completely different defense that we have never seen form them before,” the tight end said. “Being able to get on the sideline and get adjustments made and all be on the same page.”
“I have always been a Vol fan so I know what this week means to Vol Nation. It’s a big week for us, especially for me.”
