Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum forcefully rejected accusations from U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem that she incited violence during protests in Los Angeles, calling the claims "absolutely false" and a clear misunderstanding.
In a video shared on X, formerly Twitter, Sheinbaum pointed to her earlier press briefing where she urged demonstrators to act peacefully, distancing herself from any endorsement of violence.
"We do not agree with violent actions as a form of protest," Sheinbaum said, condemning acts like the burning of patrol cars as provocations rather than legitimate resistance.
Her comments followed Noem's Oval Office statement in which the secretary accused Sheinbaum of encouraging unrest.
Sheinbaum responded by reaffirming her support for nonviolence and added that she will "continue to defend honest, hardworking Mexicans who support the United States economy," calling for "dialogue and respect" between the two nations.
