Box Office Results: Deadpool & Wolverine Spoils The Crow’s Debut
Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine claimed the top spot once more after an $18.3 million (-39%) fifth weekend. The blockbuster has now grossed an incredible $577.2M domestically and $1.2B worldwide, enough to place it at No. 8 on Marvel’s all-time grossing chart behind Iron Man 3 ($1.215B) and Black Panther ($1.334B).
Last week’s champ, Alien: Romulus, dipped -61% in its sophomore frame, which is better than the -71% drop suffered by Alien: Covenant. The Fede Alvarez sequel has accrued $72.5M domestically and $225.4M worldwide, hopefully enough to warrant a follow-up.
New releases struggled to keep up this week. Blink Twice is another miss for Channing Tatum following a meager $7.3M bow in 3,067 theaters, while Lionsgate’s reimagining of The Crow failed to take flight with a putrid $4.6M opening.
On a more positive note, Sony’s faith-based The Forge raked in a healthy $6.6M from 1,818 theaters and earned an A+ CinemaScore, per Deadline.
This week offers a very slim selection: the re-release of Edgar Wright’s cult classic Shaun of the Dead, the baseball drama You Gotta Believe, and a pair of thrillers in AfrAId and Slingshot. Expect Deadpool & Wolverine to reign supreme for one more weekend before Beetlejuice Beetlejuice shakes loose on September 6.
