Musk: SpaceX will ground spacecraft used to shuttle astronauts, cargo to space station

by Sylvan Lane -
Elon Musk said Thursday his aerospace company SpaceX will ground Dragon, the spacecraft NASA uses to service the International Space Station amid his falling out with President Trump.
“In light of the President’s statement about cancellation of my government contracts,
@SpaceX will begin decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft immediately,” Musk said Thursday on X, the social media platform he purchased in 2022.
Musk’s post included a screenshot of Trump’s threat to scrap billions of dollars in federal contracts and subsidies the tech mogul’s companies receive.
SpaceX describes Dragon as “the only spacecraft currently flying that is capable of returning significant amounts of cargo to Earth, and is the first private spacecraft to take humans to the space station.”
The decommissioning of Dragon could pose a serious threat to the Trump administration’s ability to bring astronauts and cargo back and forth between the space station and Earth.

NASA press secretary Bethany Stevens said in a post on X that the agency “will continue to execute upon the President’s vision for the future of space. We will continue to work with our industry partners to ensure the President’s objectives in space are met.”
Musk’s threat was the latest salvo between the world’s richest man and the president.
Growing tensions between Musk and Trump erupted into a vicious feud Thursday, with the tech mogul accusing the president of being named in classified files related to the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
