‘Elon Musk had phone call with Donald Trump before admitting regret over posts’

Elon Musk reportedly called and spoke with Donald Trump before walking back ‘some’ of his comments about the president.
Trump received the phone call from Musk late at night on Monday and that prompted the tech billionaire’s X post expressing regret early today, three sources told The New York Times.
Musk first spoke privately with Vice President JD Vance and White House chief of staff Susie Wiles on Friday about how he could reconcile with Trump, two of the sources said.
The relationship between the two billionaires imploded in full public view last week.
Trump in a podcast recorded on Monday night revealed that he ‘could’ be open to reconciling with Musk – but that it is not a priority.
‘I guess I could, but we have to straighten out the country,’ Trump told New York Post columnist Miranda Devine when asked if he could be on good terms with Musk again.
‘And my sole function now is getting this country back to a level higher than it’s ever been. And I think we can do that.’
Trump in the interview recorded on Monday said, ‘I have no hard feelings’.
‘I was really surprised that that happened. He went after a bill that’s phenomenal,’ Trump said.
‘He just — I think he feels very badly that he said that, actually.’
The president added, as he has said before, that he was ‘disappointed’ in Musk but that ‘it is what it is’.
‘That happens. Things like that happen. I don’t blame him for anything,’ Trump said.
‘I was a little disappointed.’
The bromance – which saw the world’s richest man investing at least $260 million into efforts to send the Republican back to the White House – ended last week in tantrums and snarky swipes from both sides.
One accusation by Musk, which could have huge legal implications, drew in the most attention.
The billionaire alleged that the president is featured in secret government files on rich and powerful former associates of disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, reigniting long-running conspiracy theories.
Now, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO is retracting some posts – but he has not specified which ones exactly.
He wrote on X this morning: ‘I regret some of my posts about the president this week. They went too far.’
Since their fight began, Musk has deleted some social media posts critical of Trump, including one signaling support for impeaching the president.
He also scrapped the post in which he linked Trump to the paedophile financier.
Sources close to the billionaire had said his anger has started to subside, and that they believe he may want to repair his relationship with Trump.
The president stressed on Saturday that their relationship was over but has since said that he would not have a problem if Musk called and wished him well.
The White House dismissed Musk’s Epstein claims, with press secretary Karoline Leavitt saying: ‘This is an unfortunate episode from Elon, who is unhappy with the One Big Beautiful Bill (a Republican tax and spending bill) because it does not include the policies he wanted.
‘The president is focused on passing this historic piece of legislation and making our country great again.’
