Wizards send protected second rounder for Jonas Valanciunas

Michael Scotto: The Washington Wizards are sending Chicago’s own 2027 second-round pick (protected 31-50) to the New Orleans Pelicans to acquire veteran center Jonas Valančiūnas in a sign-and-trade deal with the New Orleans Pelicans. pic.twitter.com/yb3tpXxaFRSource: Twitter @MikeAScotto

What’s the buzz on Twitter?

Bobby Marks @BobbyMarks42
Pelicans will create a trade exception in the Jonas Valanciunas sign-and-trade.
Washington will acquire Valanciunas with the $9.8M Monte Morris TE that was set to expire today.
To meet the requirements of the trade, Washington had to send at least 1 of the following:
– cash – 4:37 PM

So Jonas Valanciunas to the Wizards is a sign-and-trade deal. Pelicans create a $9.9 million exception. They also get a 2027 second-round pick, which originally belonged to Chicago. Top 50-protected, per source. – 4:34 PM

Will Guillory @WillGuillory
Can confirm the Pelicans will receive Chicago’s 2027 2nd round pick (protected 31-50) from Washington in a sign-and-trade that sends Jonas Valanciunas to the Wizards. @MikeAScotto was first to report.
This deal will not be tied into the Dejounte Murray trade, per sources. – 4:30 PM

Chase Hughes @ChaseHughesNBCS
The Wizards were 29th in total rebounding and 30th in rebounding % last season. It was their biggest weakness.
Newly signed Jonas Valanciunas was 8th among qualified players in reb % last year. Averaged 8.8 rpg in 23.5 mpg (13.5 reb per-36 min). Also 2nd in the NBA in boxouts. – 4:24 PM

Josh Robbins @JoshuaBRobbins
Here, in @TheAthleticNBA, are some updates from me on the Washington Wizards’ roster situation, based on your questions about Tyus Jones, Malcolm Brogdon, Tristan Vukcevic and Jonas Valanciunas.

More on this storyline

Michael Scotto: The Washington Wizards signed Jonas Valanciunas to a three-year, $30 million deal, which is fully guaranteed the first two years and non-guaranteed Year 3 of the contract, league sources told @hoopshype. pic.twitter.com/ulSyel1oT5 -via Twitter @MikeAScotto / July 6, 2024

Chase Hughes: The Wizards have officially announced the Jonas Valanciunas signing, which gives them the size at center and rebounding they sorely lacked last season. Having a big center who can rebound will raise their floor and allow more flexibility for Alex Sarr to play the 4 or the 5. -via Twitter @ChaseHughesNBCS / July 6, 2024

Josh Robbins: In the sign-and-trade the Wizards completed with the Pelicans for Jonas Valanciunas, the Wizards will send the Chicago Bulls’ own 2027 second-round pick (protected 31-50) to the Pelicans, per the Wizards. So, that pick seems unlikely to convey to the Pelicans. -via Twitter @JoshuaBRobbins / July 6, 2024
