Israel v Iran LIVE: Iran warns it will strike UK, US and French bases in Middle East if they step in

IRAN has warned it will strike US, UK and French military bases in the Middle East if they step in to try and defend Israel.

Israel's allies have in the past helped Tel Aviv shoot down missiles fired from Iran during previous clashes between the two enemy powers.

But as the situation escalates towards full-scale war - Iranian state media reported they consider US, UK and French forces the firing line.

It warned Tehran would target military bases and ships located in the region if the three countries provided support to Israeli.

It came as Israel's defence minister vowed "Tehran will burn" after Iran launched hundreds of missiles toward them.

At least three people have been killed and dozens more wounded in the overnight stikes on Tel Aviv and Jerusalem - while Israel continued to pound targets in Iran.

Both sides sit on the brink of war after Israel accused Iran of trying to develop a nuclear bomb - launching a massive wave of pre-emptive strikes on Friday.

Israel killed top military leaders, nuclear scientists and blasted secretive sites believed to be being used by Iran to develop nuclear weapons.

And overnight, Iran hit back with four waves of missiles - hitting civilian areas and damaging neighbourhoods around Tel Aviv.

Defence minister Israel Katz said Iran "crossed red lines after it dared to attack the civilian population" and will now "pay a heavy price for it".

He added: "If Khamenei continues to fire missiles at the Israeli home front, Tehran will burn."

Reports emerged that Israel's version of the Pentagon - the HaKirya - had been hit, though these were not confirmed.

Tehran branded the retaliatory strikes as a "punishment" attack on Israel.

Both sides have warned more is yet to come, with Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei vowing to inflict "heavy blows".

He said his armed forces will bring the "vile regime [Israel] to ruin".

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Iran that "more is on the way" and warned "the regime does not know what will hit them".

Netanyahu also appealed directly to "the proud people of Iran", urging them "stand up and let your voices be heard" as Israel undertakes "one of the greatest military operations in history".

But his calls were offset by jubilant scenes on the streets of Tehran, where crowds gathered on Friday night to revel in the regime's show of defiance.

Earlier on Friday, Iran's war machine stood in ruins following a ferocious Israeli blitz which killed top generals, destroyed nuclear facilities, and shattered missile bases.

Israel, with its unmatched air force, powerful missile defences, and intelligence reach, demonstrated its ability to hit Iran at its core.

Iran, while weakened, still commands regional proxy networks like Hezbollah and the Houthis - forces that could be unleashed in asymmetric retaliation.

Iran described Israel's multifaceted offensive as a "declaration of war", and said it considers the US to "share full responsibility" - despite the Americans absolving themselves of collaborating in the strikes.

Iran suspends nuke talks with US
Iran has terminated nuclear talks with the the US until the Israel ends its barrage of strikes.

Officials from Tehran and Washington were set to meet this weekend for the next round of talks in Oman.

US President Donald Trump has been encouraging Iran to make a deal in which they would agree to not develop nuclear weapons.

Israel however has always insisted Tehran is pursuing nukes - and described the recent attacks as a "pre-emptive strike" to stop them developing the bomb.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmail Baghaei, told a news conference in Tehran: “It is obvious that in such circumstances and until the Zionist regime’s aggression against the Iranian nation stops, it will be meaningless to participate in dialogue with the party that is the biggest supporter and accomplice of the aggressor.”

Continuing Iran-US nuclear talks is unjustifiable while "barbarous" Israeli attacks persist on the country, Iranian state media cited Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi as saying on Saturday.

On Friday, Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the dialogue with the US over Tehran's nuclear programme is "meaningless" after Israel's biggest-ever military strike against Iran, accusing Washington of supporting the attack.

Anger and worry mix in Tehran after Iran and Israel exchange strikes
Anger mixed with worry as Iranians in the capital of Tehran woke up Saturday to images of their country's retaliatory attacks on Israel.

Iranian state television, long controlled by hard-line supporters of the country's theocracy, repeatedly aired footage of missile strikes on Tel Aviv throughout the morning.

The broadcaster also showed people cheering in front of a large screen set up in Tehran to follow the strikes as if they were watching a soccer match.

Traffic was lighter than normal on the capital's streets. The change was due in part to a religious holiday; even before the attacks began, many Iranians had travelled outside the city to enjoy days off in places along the nearby Caspian Sea.

The holiday mood made news of Israel's assault that much more shocking, particularly when the strikes on Friday killed many ranking members of Iran's military and paramilitary Revolutionary Guard, something unseen since Iran's war with Iraq in the 1980s.

Mahmoud Dorri, a 29-year-old taxi driver, said: "Israel killed our commanders, and what do they expect in return? A kiss?

"We will go after them to punish them: an eye for an eye."

In downtown Tehran, 31-year-old teacher and mother of two, Pari Pourghazi, expressed her joy over Iran's attack, linking it to Israel's devastating war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

"Someone should stop the Israelis. They think they can do anything they want at any time.

"Iran showed the Israelis are wrong, though they could suppress people in Gaza or Lebanon by heavy bombing."

Auto mechanic Houshang Ebadi, 61, also backed the Iranian strike but said he opposed a full-fledged war between Iran and Israel.

"I support my country. The Israelis made a mistake in launching attacks on Iran but I hope this comes to an end.

Others expressed concerns, verbally or through their actions.

Fruit seller Hamid Hasanlu, 41, said his twins couldn't sleep Friday night with the sounds of explosions and anti-aircraft batteries firing.

"The leaders of both countries should know that people are suffering," he said.

Bakeries also drew crowds as people sought to buy supplies, including traditional Iranian bread, a staple of meals.

"I buy more bread since I think maybe there is no flour or electricity because of the war," said Molouk Asghari, a 56-year-old homemaker.

" I have children and grandchildren. I cannot see them in a hard situation without food, water and electricity."

Across the country, people faced the continued strain of the conflict as Iran's airspace remained closed.

Britain's Foreign Secretary David Lammy on Saturday said he was "alarmed" by events overnight in the Israel-Iran conflict.

He said: "Alarmed by further strikes in the Middle East overnight, with reports of fatalities and injuries in Israel.

"We must urgently de-escalate and prevent any further harm to civilians.

He added that he had spoken to his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi "to urge calm".

Israel has killed three more Iranian nuclear scientists, state television reported Saturday, bringing to nine the overall number slain in Israel's attack on the Islamic Republic.

Iran's Esfahan and Natanz nuclear sites significantly damaged, says Israeli military official
Iran's Esfahan and Natanz nuclear sites were significantly damaged due to Israeli strikes on the two facilities, an Israeli military official said on Saturday.

The official said that it would take more than a few weeks for Iran to repair damage at the two sites, adding that the strikes also killed nine senior Iranian nuclear scientists.

Israel attacked over 150 targets in Iran with hundreds of munitions, the official said, adding that the aerial road to the Iranian capital Tehran, was effectively open.

He said that Iran fired hundreds of drones and missiles towards Israel, most of which were intercepted.
