Travis Kelce was booed during an NBA playoff game in Texas likely because many fans did not associate his image with the state.
On Sunday, Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce attended Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals. He was accompanied by his teammate Patrick Mahomes and Mahomes’ wife, Brittany. However, Kelce was taken aback when fans booed as his face appeared on the video board. The Kansas City Chiefs star looked visibly shocked by the audience’s reaction.
In contrast, when the camera moved towards his teammate Patrick Mahomes, he received enthusiastic cheers and clapping from the audience. The discrepancy in reception might be due to the fact that both Patrick and Brittany Mahomes are Texans.
According to ET, over the weekend, Travis Kelce addressed getting booed on his podcast, New Heights presented by Wave Sports + Entertainment. Though disappointed, he remained unfazed saying, “I’m not from Dallas, I’m just kind of like an innocent bystander. Maybe they just don’t like the Chiefs, I don’t know.” Later, the Kansas City Chiefs also revealed that he once hoped to play for the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. He admitted to screwing up the opportunity when he had a shot.
