Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty fame has passed away at the age of 79. Following the news, Phil’s granddaughter Sadie Robertson has opened up about the recent loss of her “Papaw.” Taking to social media, Sadie also shared some of her final moments with her grandfather with fans.

Phil was a professional hunter and businessman, known for founding the Duck Commander company. He famously served as the patriarch of the Robertson family, which many fans were introduced to through the reality series, Duck Dynasty.
Following the end of the original series in 2017, many fans followed Phil and his family through the podcast series, Unashamed with the Robertson Family. In 2023, a biographical film based on Phil and his wife Kay’s early lives, The Blind, was released to theaters.

Tragically, Phil passed away on May 25, 2025, at the age of 79. No cause of death was announced at the time of his death. That said, Phil had endured various health issues prior to his death, including being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in late 2024. While a Duck Dynasty revival had been recently announced, it was previously confirmed that Phil would not appear prior to the news of his passing.
Following his passing, Phil’s granddaughter Sadie Robertson took to social media to discuss her family’s recent loss. On Instagram, she included a TikTok video clip where Phil talked about his faith, studying how the universe came to be, and embracing the Bible.
Phil’s Granddaughter Recently Talked About The ‘Millions’ He Touched During His Life
The clip then cut to videos of Phil in his later years, continuing to talk about his faith. At the end of the sequence, Sadie featured a photo of her grandfather, with a caption reading, “Phil Robertson, 1946-2025.”
Sadie then talked about how her grandfather’s faith made an impression of millions of fans. As she noted, “This is it right here!”
“I’ve been overwhelmed today by all of the texts, DMs, posts, messages, articles, and words that have been sent and spoken about Papaw Phil and how he impacted so many. I wrote in my post yesterday that he touched ‘thousands,’ and I can confidently correct that now to millions.”
“I can’t stop thinking about how he lived in the middle of nowhere, in a small, humble home with no cell phone or computer, and yet his life touched millions with the hope of Jesus.”
Looking back at her grandfather, Sadie noted, “He reminds me of people in the Bible. Not many lived with the end goal in mind as much as he did, and not many chose to spend their lives telling everyone they encountered like he did. He really believed it, and I know that he is alive in Christ fully today!” She concluded her post, noting, “What a life of authenticity. What a legend.”
Sadie Also Talked About Her Final Moments With ‘Papaw Phil’
In another post, Sadie also touched on her last moments with her grandfather. As she noted, “As I was sitting with Papaw Phil today, I thought about this verse… he has already experienced this on earth—going from dead to alive by the power of Christ!”
“It was his testimony that changed his life, our families life, and thousands of others. Now he is experiencing it in the fullness. Fully alive in Christ. The new has come. One of the last things he said to me was ‘full strength ahead!’ Amen!”
Many fans shared their condolences with Sadie in the comments. A few noted all the media they have to help remember Phil’s legacy, including Duck Dynasty and the 2023 film. Some comments included:
